KARACHI, May 18: In a late burst outsider five-year-old dark bay mare Spice Of Arab, formerly Janu Love Inshu, toppled two front runners Tyre Jee and Diamond In Dust to land the feature event in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

It was a neck-and-neck contest between the odds-on-favourite filly Diamond In Dust and fancied colt Tyre Jee with Spice Of Arab following on their heels.

As the horses approach for home after getting into straight in the six furlongs last race, Spice Of Arab dashed and overtook both of them to return with flying colours.

Rider Waseem tactfully handled his mount outpacing Trye Jee by three lengths to present owner Mrs Zubaida Rehmat with a winner.

Diamond In Dust occupied the third slot finishing further two-and-a-half lengths behind while Arab Hi Arab completed the board.

Favourite filly Bacaradi justified her top billing when she got the better of bay Manan Prince by eight-and-a-quarter lengths to claim the supporting event.

Colt John Player and mare Hi Darling followed the top two in the same order among 10 contestants.

But it was young apprentice rider Rehan Ahmed who stole the limelight with a back-to-back double in the first two races. He is shaping well and leading the group ‘C’ riders with five wins to his credit.

First he piloted home joint favourite five-year-old bay Captain Cook to his second win of the season, beating mare Paidagiree by an impressive seven-and-a-half lengths in the opener.

The rider completed the double when he stormed bay The Choice Of The Day to his maiden win of the year in the second race to create quite a stir. The Choice Of The Day edged Mixed Blessing by three-quarter-of-a-length.

Favourite mare Sweet Grandy had to be content with fourth place.

Favourite five-year-old chestnut Dr Dang, who finished off the board in the last run after completing a hat-trick, was back in form when he obliged punters with a fluent win over Hamza Joy in the third race. He was ridden home by Fahim K.

The fourth race ended in a blaze of glory for six-year-old bay Bharosa who overcame filly Baby John to make it two on the trot.

Favourite King Of Cool finished third while Princess Rozi completed the frame.
