THATTA, May 20: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has been asked to remove the EDO Education of Thatta district from the post because of his alleged corruption.

The demand has been made by Pakistan People’s Party MPA Humera Alwani. She told reporters on Tuesday that Mohammed Bux Janwari, recently posted EDO in Education Department was an SDEO in 1999 and 2001.

Secretary Education Nazar Hussain Mahar removed him from SDEO Male and a junior clerk on misappropriation, misconduct and corruption charges of around Rs7.4 million in GP funds and difference in bills of teachers in January 2003, she alleged.

The MPA said, Successor Secretary Education Sindh Mohammed Hashim Leghari set aside the impugned order dated 20-01-2003 and reinstated Mr Janwari and the junior clerk, she said adding inquiry was pending with the Anti-Corruption Establishment.

Ms Humera alleged that with the backing of some vested interests, he recaptured the post recently.

She accused Janwari of disrupting the Education Department setup by transferring eight officers of Grade-17 and 23 of BPS-9.

She said the Sindh government abolished the post of RP/LCO but Mr Janwari reactivated it by appointing many of his favourites.

She said the EDO was Grade 18 officer posted on Grade 19 to look after the department but “broke records of nepotism and favouritism.”

The MPA alleged during the ongoing examinations, the EDO transferred hundreds of male and female teachers in the district in a month, putting at stake the future of students.

Meanwhile, various NGOs took out a procession in Thatta to protest against the posting of Mohammed Bux Janwari as the EDO Education here on Saturday.

EDO Mohammed Bux Janwari when contacted said the issue was being dragged unnecessarily as former Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim had ordered his reinstatement in 2005.

On transfer and postings, the EDO said he used the powers on administrative grounds.
