ISLAMABAD, May 20: Two persons allegedly members of a robbers’ gang managed to escape while their three accomplices were arrested during a raid on G-11/3 Monday night, police said.

The Shalimar police conducted the raid to arrest the robbers who were allegedly to commit a robbery in the area. But, on seeing the police, two robbers sitting in a car ran away from the scene.

However, the police succeeded to arrest three robbers sitting on front and back seats of the car. During search, the police recovered two 30-bore pistols, 15 rounds and pieces of rope from them.

The police have claimed that the gang had been involved in various activities, including robberies, terrorism and attacking on police officials.

The gang’s leader is a proclaimed offender and wanted to Shahzad Town, Kotli Satyan and Kahuta police in connection with various illegal activities, the police added.

Meanwhile, the city police have arrested 16 outlaws during crackdown on anti-social elements and recovered illicit weapons and stake money from them.

A spokesman for the police said the Kohsar police arrested 10 gamblers red-handed while playing cards in Saidpur and recovered stake money of Rs13,500 from them on the spot.

Likewise, the Tarnol police apprehended two persons and recovered a 30-bore pistol and an iron punch from them.

Similarly, the Bharakahu police arrested a man and recovered a-30 bore pistol, while Sahazad Town police arrested two accused and recovered two pistols and eight rounds from them.

The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) has also recovered a 30-bore pistol along with four rounds on the disclosure of an accused arrested in connection with various charges including murder.

Acting SSP Islamabad Dr Moeen Masood has appreciated the performance of the concerned police stations and directed all the SHOs including Rescue 15 to intensify the ongoing drive against those involved in street crimes and deal with such elements with an iron hand.

He also directed the police to increase the patrolling in all areas of the capital to curb crimes.

UTP escapes: A handcuffed under trail prisoner escaped from the police custody on Tuesday, police said.

The police said that an accused of robberies (AS) was brought to District and Sessions Court by a sub-inspector and a head- constable of Shalimar police from Adyala Jail in a private vehicle.

The UTP managed to escape from the police custody when the officials were parking the vehicle in the parking area of the courts near the Margalla police station.

A case has been registered against the police officials in this regard with the Margalla police and investigations are in progress.

The police said that the UTP was arrested by Shalimar police in connection with robberies and later sent to Adyala Jail on judicial remand. The officials brought him to courts for identification.
