LAHORE, May 24: Pakistan released 96 Indian fishermen and three other prisoners on Saturday and handed them over to Indian authorities at Wagah.
Earlier, during a mutual exchange of fishermen, India had released 14 Pakistani fishermen on May 17.
A Rangers (Punjab) spokesman told Dawn that 99 prisoners were handed over to the Indian authorities in the presence of officials of the Indian High Commission and the Foreign Office.Kot Lakhpat Central Jail Superintendent Malik Mubashir said three prisoners, who had completed their sentence, were released from jail on Saturday.
An official of the Punjab prisons department said more than 40 Indian prisoners were still in different jails of the province.
