KARACHI, May 30: Pakistan will face Great Britain in their opening hockey match at the Beijing Olympics on Aug 11.

The organising committee of the Beijing Olympic Games and the International Hockey Federation (FIH) released the match schedule for the hockey tournament on Friday.

Pakistan are in Group ‘B’ with Australia, Netherlands, Great Britain, South Africa and Canada.

Group ‘A’ comprises Germany, Spain, Korea, New Zealand, Belgium and China.

Women hockey tournament will begin on Aug 10 when Japan take on New Zealand while men’s competition will start on Aug 11 with Germany playing against China.

Semi-finals of women’s and men’s tournaments will be played on Aug 20 and 21 respectively.

The finals will take place on Aug 22 (women) and Aug 23 (men).

Pakistan’s Olympic hockey schedule:

Aug 11: v Great Britain

Aug 13: v Canada

Aug 15: v Australia

Aug 17: v South Africa

Aug 19: v the Netherlands.
