DADU, June 1: A large number of employees of the family planning department observed a strike and took out a procession here on Saturday in protest against non-confirmation of the services of contractual employees.

They marched on the main roads of the city before reaching the press club where they staged a demonstration.

Office-bearers of the All-Pakistan Clerks Association’s Dadu chapter, Syed Imdad Ali Shah, Mohammad Younis and Zubeda Solangi led the protest.

Mr Shah said that the department had not confirmed services of hundreds of contractual employees since 1998 to 2008 and demanded they should be regularised. All the employees working on deputation in this department should be sent back to their departments, he added.

Mr Younis said that illegal appointments should be stopped and jobs should be provided to the sons of employers on the quota for deceased employees.

Ms Zubeda said that contractual employees in other departments had been regularised but they had been neglected in the family planning department.

She warned if their problems were not resolved they would continue struggle for the rights.
