HYDERABAD, June 11: Post-graduate doctors staged a protest demonstration outside the press club Wednesday against ‘leave without pay’ policy of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences.

Dr Rehmat Bhatti, Dr Jai Sharma and others criticised the ‘leave without pay policy’ for being substituted on deputation introduced in 2006 for doctors passing Sindh Public Service Commission examinations. They said the same doctors before framing of the new policy were transferred and deputed but later-on they were asked to proceed on leave without pay.

Not only this, doctors had not been paid stipend for last 10 months while university administration was not ready to talk, they said and added that they passed commission’s examination but were now being forced to leave training midway. They said if the policy continued, several hundred doctors would not be able to become specialists.
