CHITRAL, June 14: District Nazim Maghfirat Shah has said that the local government (LG) was facing shortage of financial resources which badly hampered development works.

Addressing a gathering at Melp village here on Saturday, he said despite the financial crunch, a good number of development projects aimed at rapid progress of remote areas had been undertaken in the district.

He said communication, health and education sectors were being given priority. Remote areas of the district lacked basic necessities of life in the past while a tangible change could be noticed currently due to the efforts of the district government, he claimed.

Mr Shah said that community must unite and learn how to solve their problems locally by using their own resources for which the district government had done a commendable job. To achieve the goal of community participatory approach, he said, a number of practical measures had been taken which were result-oriented.

The nazim announced Rs1 million for the improvement and realignment of the Rayeen-Melp road and promised to establish a health unit, improve the local high school and set up a sales point of the food department to provide residents wheat at their doorsteps.
