MITHI, June 18: Sharjeel Inam Memon, Pakistan People’s Party’s candidate for PS-62 Nagarparkar, was declared elected unopposed after all the other candidates, including Arbab Naimatullah, pulled out of the race for the provincial assembly seat, which had fallen vacant after the death of Arbab Haji Abdullah.

Sources in the PPP said that PPP’s Mir Amanullah Talpur and five candidates of Arbab group, Arbab Naimatullah, Arbab Sikandar, Mohammad Amin Samejo, Qamaruddin Rahoomo and Shoukat Ali Nohri withdrew their papers in favour of Sharjeel under a reconciliation deal between PPP and Arbab group.Kamal Chang, Maeen Bajir, PPP’s Sunil Kumar Malani and an independent candidate Meghna had already pulled out of the race, the sources said.

The returning officer had reportedly sent a report to the provincial election commission, declaring Sharjeel elected unopposed for PS-62 Nagarparkar, the sources said.

The Sindh Assembly seat had fallen vacant after the death of Arbab Haji Abdullah, brother of former chief minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, in an accident. He had won the seat after defeating Sharjeel Memon in Feb 18 elections.

PPP activists distributed sweets and brought out rallies in Mithi, Nagarparkar and Chhachhro to express joy at the success of their candidate while scores of Arbab group supporters who had gone underground after general elections for fear of arrest have resurfaced after deal with PPP.
