ATTOCK, June 20: People have developed serious reservations about the reappointment of transferred officers in the district which has also led to huge loss to the national exchequer in shape of TA/DA, it has been learnt.

Like other parts of the province, a number of officers in various district government departments were transferred from Attock after formation of the new Punjab government “in order to establish goodgovernance and improve performance of public offices”.

The public appreciated the move but their joy was short- lived as the officers had started rejoining the post previously held by them in Attock. Similarly, transfer of other officials from the district have also been stopped.

Ansar Wazir, who was transferred last month after over three-year service in Attock, had been reappointed as the executive district officer (EDO) education.

Earlier, he was replaced by Malik Bashir.

The EDO literacy, Waris Khan, was transferred to Bhakar district on the same post, and he also got reappointed on his previous seat.

Such as, Tehsil Municipal Officer (TMO) Sardar Shabeer Ahmed Khan, who is brother of Chief Commissioner Islamabad Hamid Khan and brother-in-law of Attock Nazim Tahir Sadiq Khan, was transferred to Dina tehsil after serving in Attock for about six years, and now he had been appointed as TMO Hazro in Attock district.

The Punjab government, in accordance with service rule, paid a heavy amount to these officers twice under the head of TA/DA due to their postings form and to Attock district.

Sources told Dawn that after the recent reappointments, some other officers, who were not happy over their transfer, had also geared up their activities to rejoin posts in Attock, where they had already served for four to seven years.

Interestingly, majority of government officials have “tactfully” switched political loyalties to save their present attractive posts.

Talking to this correspondent, many people said if the undue favouritism prevailed, the new Punjab government would stand exposed after making tall claims of working towards good governance in the province.

Besides the reappointments, many officers who recently joined duty in Attock had been removed prematurely.

ASP Dr Atif, ASP Syed Amin and DSP Shaukat Ali were appointed last month as sub divisional police officers (SDPOs) in Hazro, Jand and Attock Saddar police circles, respectively.

However, they were transferred last week due to unknown reasons.

The provincial chief secretary was not available for comments and his office phone was not answered when this correspondent made repeated attempts.
