NAWABSHAH, June 23: The acting chief justice of the Sindh High Court Justice Azizullah A. Memon on Monday transferred the second additional sessions judge of Nawabshah to Jacobabad over prisoners’ complaints that he kept sitting on their cases and took too long to process them.

Justice Memon visited the sessions court and other lower courts in the district and met with prisoners in the judicial lockup, who complained to him that their fate had been put in a limbo as their cases had not been processed for a long time.

Justice Memon took serious notice of the complaint and ordered transfer of the second additional sessions judge Masood Ahmed Korejo to Jacobabad.

But the president of Nawabshah District Bar Association Ali Mohammed Dahiri did not appreciate the action. He criticised the judge’s sudden visit without and said that the chief justice took the action without checking record of pending cases or meeting with lawyers or office-bearers of DBA.

He said that he should have met with the legal fraternity (before taking the action) as they were the people who knew most about the administrative and judicial problems.

Earlier, the judge visited the civil court of Sakrand.

Our Sanghar correspondent adds: Justice Memon said that new judges would be appointed soon to speed up process of provision of justice to people as the shortage of judges had led to rising piles of cases pending trial in courts.

The acting justice who visited the district and sessions court and the district bar office said that new judges would be appointed soon and civil judges would be promoted on seniority and merit basis.

He said that power generators would be provided in courts to overcome electricity load-shedding, which greatly hampered work. Later, he visited courts and inspected records.
