KHAIRPUR, June 26: Khairpur city remained plunged into darkness for five to seven hours during the last 24 hours ending on Thursday evening.

Twenty localities of the city -- including Garhi Pul, Talpur colony, Unnar colony, Faiz Mahal area, Abid colony and Serai Ghanwar Khan -- remained without electricity from 9pm on Wednesday till 4am on Thursday.

Power supply to other parts of the city was suspended at 11pm and restored at 4am.

Muttahida Mazdoor Federation leaders Amjad Lashari and Shahbaz Dino Phulpoto, civil society activist Asad Shah Abidi and other social workers said that a large number of people passed sleepless night due to power outage in sizzling heat.

They alleged that it was artificial loadshedding as power supply remained smooth in other parts of Khairpur district.
