RAWALPINDI, July 2: Lawyers here on Wednesday reiterated their resolve to continue their struggle for the restoration of deposed judges with a new spirit, and said a rally would be held on the Constitution Avenue on July 10 to press the coalition government for honouring the Murree Accord.

The pledge was made by officer-bearers of Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) and District Bar Association (DBA) in a press release issued after a meeting of the LHCBA executive body at the bar offices.

LHCBA president Sardar Asmatullah, vice-president Babar Ali, general secretary Siddique Awan, DBA president Sardar Tariq Masood and other members of the LHCBA executive body attended by meeting.

Mr Asmatullah said on the directives of the Pakistan Bar Council, they had decided to observe complete boycott of the courts every Thursday.

On July 10, the lawyers of Rawalpindi division, Sialkot, Gujranwala and Gujrat would gathered at the Constitution Avenue in Islamabad to give new impetus to the movement for the judiciary’s restoration.

The lawyers’ representative said the movement had not ended, adding that there was just a lull after the long march.

Mr Asmatullah said on March 9 and in May Pakistan People’s Party co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz chief Nawaz Sharif pledged to the nation that the deposed judges would be reinstated through a parliamentary resolution but they backed out on their commitment.

He said the whole nation was united on the issue of return of the sacked judges. People want supremacy of law in the country and lawyers will never ignore the people’s desire, he added.

The LHCBA said they were grateful to political parties, civil society groups, students, doctors and the trade unions for making the long march successful.

Sadiq Awan said lawyers would observe complete boycott of the courts on Thursdays, and added that the members of the LHCBA and DBA Rawalpindi would go to the Supreme Court in order to stop lawyers from appearing before the PCO judges.

He said next Thursday they would take out a rally, and hoped that lawyers would fully participate in it. He said the lawyers’ community would not sit in peace until all the judges were restored.
