ISLAMABAD, July 2: The government on Wednesday added two ‘non-economic’ persons to the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the federal cabinet, the apex body that regulates economic indicators and takes major decisions.

The new members are Adviser to Prime Minister on Interior and Narcotics Control Rehman Malik and Minister for Labours, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah.

The decision was announced in an establishment notification.

The ECC includes ministers for commerce; communications; food, agriculture and livestock; industries; information technology; petroleum and natural resources; ports and shipping; privatisation and investment; railways; science and technology; textile industry; water and power, adviser to the prime minister on finance and revenue; Planning Commission’s deputy chairman; State Bank governor, and chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan.
