LAHORE, July 12: Three-year-old colt Velocity looks set to complete hat-trick of victories by winning the feature event during the day/night Lahore Summer Meeting at the floodlit Racecourse on Sunday.

With two facile victories on the trot, this son of Vitellozzi out-of-Gambling Princess will be on the course to score his third success in a row.

His close rivals could be Hallow Dancer and Pak Edition.

The only negative point about Hallow Dancer is that he is appearing after a long recess.

The feature event, the Ravi Plate Class V Division I and II, will go over 1,000 metres. This will be the sixth and last race of the day. The other five races will be contested over 900 metres.

The supporting and fifth race, the Shah Kot Plate Class VI Division I, has eleven runners barring last-minute withdrawals.

Of them Big Bird, Love Minister and Naseeb Apna Apna come into reckoning on recent form and performances. They should fight for the top honours.

Big Bird has an edge on recent form.

Three-year-old bay colt Shock Wave who was beaten to third place on last Sunday is appearing in the fourth race to salvage his bloodline pride.

The colt was beaten in a controversial manner to third place and the race was won by filly Darnaz in a front-running style.

With the recent run and the increased distance of the race by 100 metres, Shock Wave has an edge over his ten opponents.

Last Option, Rana Choice and Thanks For Nothing may fight for places.

Three fillies are vying for supremacy and get rid of the maiden’s duck on the win statistics table in the third race. They are: Super Sonic, Freeze and Dream Memories. All are from good bloodlines. But there are other eight contestants too barring last-minute withdrawals.

The distance of the race will suit Freeze because Dream Memories has no stamina over 800 metres and the tendency of slithering towards outside. Super Sonic did not look good on her last running.

That leaves Freeze, who has hit the board more than once, to have an advantage over others. The other probable runners have no performance to justify claim.

Mera Chan, Dam Dama Dam and First Dream are the chance runners in the second race.

Although placed on top of the handicap with nine stone four pounds, Mera Chan still seems faster of all. Dam Dama Dam and First Dream may be his challengers.

Chocolate Boy and Black King are the good ones in the first race to pick up the spoils. The first named is speedy while Black King is a slow beginner.

On Saturday a cloudburst turned various low-lying localities of the city in small lakes. The Racecourse too presented a similar look. Therefore, some runners will take advantage from the soft ground conditions.

The first race will be held at 5.30pm.
