KARACHI, July 16: The State Life Insurance Corporation is considering developing products for the agriculture sector to further consolidate the organisation’s services to the rural sector.

This was stated by State Life chairman Shahid Aziz Siddiqui, while talking to APP here.

He, however, did not elaborate, but said, “We will concentrate at the grassroots levels to give facilities to the common man”.

Mr Shahid also pointed out that over a period of time the SLIC had attained the trust of the people and because of this they prefer the SLIC in the life sector and that the organisation is still holding 79 per cent of the life business in the country.

The State Life chief claimed that the revenue targets of the organisation are within reach. “In fact every year our revenue targets increase by 26 per cent.” This year’s new business target is Rs4.45 billion and till June this year 47 per cent of this has already been achieved.

He pointed out that the corporation had a workforce of 64,000 people consisting of the insurance agents spread all over the country, who work on the commission basis in both urban and rural areas.

He stated that the activities of the organisation stretched to providing insurance facilities to the Pakistanis in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.

He said that the State Life was thinking of expanding its service to Bahrain as well with the setting up of a new office there.

Mr Shahid was of the view that in the life sector the corporation had been performing a very key role and that this would continue in the time ahead.

“We will expand this and will try to bring the rural people into our network.”
