LAHORE, July 23: A four-and-a-half-year-old child fell victim to chemical-coated string of a stray kite on Wednesday near Old Chah Miran Road in the limits of Gujjarpura police.

Naeem along with his wife and son Naeem was traveling on his motorcycle. When he reached near the Hazoori Shah shrine in Gujjarpura, the child’s neck became entangled with the stray kite string that cut his throat.

His mother fell unconscious seeing the child in a pool of blood. Naeem took his child first to Kot Khawaja Saeed Hospital to be referred to Mayo Hospital where he succumbed to his injury.

Locals and passers-by gathered on the crime scene and protested against unidentified kite-flyers and local police for not controlling the ‘killing sport’ which had claimed dozens of lives in the recent years.

Senior Superintendent of Police (operations) Chaudhry Shafiq Ahmed suspended Gujjarpura station house officer Sharif Sandhu and issued notice-cum- letter of displeasure to Gujjarpura Supervisory Police Officer (SPO) Rana Azeem besides recommending strict departmental action against the SPO.
