LAHORE, July 24: The Punjab government is learnt to have decided to sack 450 officials of the prosecution department who failed in interviews after their appointment on a contract basis.

Among such officials are district, deputy district and assistant district prosecutors and additional and deputy prosecutor generals.

The previous government had recruited nearly 800 such officials, all belonging to the legal profession, on a contract basis. Their services were to continue till the induction of regular officials through the public service commission.

Nevertheless, the previous government formed a four-member committee to assess suitability of the officers recruited on a contract basis. And during the process it found 450 officials ineligible. Officials say the present government has now decided to sack these 450 officials.
