THATTA, July 25: The third meeting of the coordination and advisory committee of the Indus for All programme of the WWF on Friday discussed environment and development issues of the Thatta district.
Speaking at the meeting, Thatta DCO Dr Liaque Memon said that integrated efforts were required to address environment issues and reduce poverty in rural areas, particularly areas in the coastal belt of Sindh.
The meeting reviewed the progress of the committee and discussed its future activities.
The committee was set up by the DCO to discuss environment and development issues at district level.
The DCO appreciated the initiatives taken under the programme in the district, including establishment of wind turbines and potable water tanks.
He said the district government would support community based organisations (CBOs) through citizen community boards (CCBs) funds to complement the projects.
He emphasised on providing technical support to local people for boosting economic activities in their areas.
The meeting was informed that the projects for potable water and sanitation schemes, biogas plants, wind turbine energy units and solar energy plants would be introduced under the programme.
Training programmes for CBO and CCBs representatives, fisheries department workers and health workers would be organised in the third quarter of the year.
The meeting was attended by Nasir Ali Panhwar, Rab Nawaz, Zahid Jalbani and Aslam Jarwar.
