ISLAMABAD, July 25: Law-yers, political activists and civil society activists here on Friday saw off the deposed chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry at the Islamabad airport as he left for Multan to address a convention of lawyers.

Some lawyers gathered in the parking area of the airport and chanted slogans in favour of the deposed judges and against the delay in the implementation of Murree Agreement signed by the coalition government on March 9.

The deposed CJP was flanked by six lawyers including former vice-chairman Pakistan Bar Council Ali Ahmed Kurd and Athar Minallah.

Speaking on the occasion, Kurd said he was confident that the lawyers’ struggle would bear the desired results.

He said he expected from the elected government to restore the deposed judges by August 14. Earlier a group of Awami Jamhoori Ittehad activists assembled outside the residence of the deposed CJP at Judges Enclave to see him off. They chanted slogans against President Musharraf and in favour of the deposed judges.

They vowed to continue their struggle against the outdated feudal and tribal system and for bringing about social and political change in the country.

Meanwhile, a group of some 100 lawyers led by Lahore High Court Bar Association Rawalpindi chapter President Sardar Asmatullah and secretary District Bar Association Sajid Tanoli also left for Multan to attend the convention.
