KARACHI, July 27: The president of the Awami Muslim League, Shaikh Rashid, has predicted that the next two months will be crucial for the democratic dispensation in the country.

“Either the ruling coalition will impeach President Pervez Musharraf in August/September or someone else will make them accountable”, he said.

He was talking to journalists on Sunday after inaugurating his party’s office in Karachi, which Mr Rashid had formed after losing the February 18 elections.

Terming Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani a “dummy premier”, he said Mr Gilani’s statement that no one could dissolve the assemblies was enough to describe the current situation in the country. Mr Rashid said that such claims were only made when the assemblies were about to be dissolved.

In reply to a question, he said that he intended to carryout political activities in Karachi with the support of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and the Pakistan Muslim League-F.

The AML chief said that the present rulers had made tall claims of discussing every issue in the parliament but since the formation of the government not a single issue had so far been discussed in the parliament.

He said his party hoped that the current setup worked and attained stability but the problem was that the party, which came to power using the slogans of Roti, Kapra Aur Makaan, had utterly failed to deliver on all the fronts.

Commenting on the judicial crisis in the country, he said that the judges’ issue had unnecessarily been stretched.

He said that the situation in Balochistan was even worse as compared with the NWFP as according to him, he did not see the existence of any government in Balochistan.

Mr Rashid said that there was no need to make efforts to bring down a government, which itself was crumbling.

He said the present rulers were most of the time on foreign tours and came here only to pay a visit.
