JACOBABAD, July 28: Activists of Citizens Alliance, Hindu Panchayat, Traders Alliance and a large number of members of general public held rallies on the fifth consecutive day on Monday in protest against police failure to curb crimes in the city.

The rallies converged at main Sarrafa Bazaar Chowk after marching on main roads and streets, and turned into a big procession, which observed token hunger strike at the chowk for two hours.

The protesters led by president of Citizens Alliance Akram Abro, Ahmed Ali Brohi of Traders Alliance, Dr A.G. Ansari of JUI-F, Lal Chand Seetlani of Hindu Panchayat, Imdad Talani of STP and Alam Khoso of Primary Teachers Association condemned snatching of gold ornaments worth millions of rupees from Hindu women when they were attending a religious gathering five days ago.

They said that people had been left at the mercy of robbers, dacoits and snatchers and demanded early arrest of culprits.

JUI-F: A general body meeting of the Jacobabad chapter of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam held at Madressa Mazharul Haq on Monday declared army operations in Balochistan and tribal areas as unlawful and against the Shariat.

The meeting presided over by Syed Shah Mohammad Shah and attended by Ainullah Shams, Balochistan Minister for Health Hamadullah, provincial president of JUI Abdul Qayoom Halejvi, joint secretary of JUI Sindh Dr A.G. Ansari and secretary general of JUI Jacobabad said that fellow countrymen were being massacred in Balochistan and tribal areas to appease Americans.

They demanded an end to army operations and resolution of all issues through dialogue.
