KUWAIT CITY, July 31: Kuwait has deported more than 300 Bangladeshi workers accused of instigating labour unrest in the country.

They were sent home by a special chartered flight after commercial airlines refused to carry them because they did not have proper travel documents.

Meanwhile, about 8,000 workers, mainly Bangladeshis, called off their strike after the government reached an agreement with them and set a minimum wage of KD40 (US$151).

The striking workers were demanding better wages. The authorities were stunned when the workers started rioting, damaging private and public property, and ransacking offices.

The ministry of interior said it had no option but to deport the workers who were involved in acts of hooliganism.
