WASHINGTON, Aug 2: The understanding reached between Pakistan and the United States during the prime minister’s visit to fight terrorism will produce results in the next few days, says Ambassador Husain Haqqani.

In an interview broadcast on Friday night, Mr Haqqani acknowledged that the CIA had conveyed concerns to Pakistan over the alleged involvement of some ISI officials with the jihadi groups and promised to take action against them.

“Action will be taken against networks the CIA says it has hard intelligence on, but it (CIA) will have to share that intelligence with us,” he said.

The Pakistani envoy in Washington also addressed the allegation that some ISI members were involved in the July 7 bombing of the Indian Embassy in Kabul, but said his government needed hard evidence to deal with the matter.

“If India and Afghanistan level some allegations and the United States supports them, we need evidence, we need hard evidence,” he said, appearing jointly with his wife Farahnaz Isphahani on “Tonight on Charlie Rose” news show.

Mr Haqqani said that during the prime minister’s visit the US and Pakistan had agreed to take set measures to prevent terrorists from deepening their roots in the tribal areas.

The two governments “are going to take (measures) in tandem with one another to ensure that American concerns are allayed,” he said.

Mr Haqqani said Pakistan’s concerns “about its sovereignty and about civilian authority and control and its concerns relating to Afghanistan and India” would also be addressed.
