HYDERABAD, Aug 7: Sindh Minister for Works and Services Manzoor Hussain Wassan has said that the Pakistan People’s Party needs time to clean the rot, which has accumulated and multiplied over the past 12 years.
He said at an open katchehry at the Circuit House that the PPP believed in providing jobs to the jobless youth and not in terminating services. Whenever the PPP came to power, it had set into motion multipurpose development programmes and the dictatorship always reversed them, he said.
Even this day, the former dictators and the anti-democratic forces were hatching conspiracies against the PPP, he said, adding, that the conspiracies were in fact against people, which would be foiled, he said.
He said that the major difference between dictatorship and democracy was that the former always took decisions within the confines of drawing rooms whereas the latter decided all issues in accordance with the will of people.
He said that the PPP government would not only protect the rights of Sindh but also other provinces because the party was the representative of all the federating units.
Referring to problems raised by people in the open katchehry, he said the problems of hunger, poverty, unemployment and lawlessness had multiplied over the past 12 years and the PPP was in process of evolving a comprehensive strategy to solve them in a systematic manner.
He said that the people’s government certainly needed time to clean all this rot and the government was giving top priority to law and order and providing jobs to the teeming millions through proper planning.
The minister later presided over a meeting of the officials of his department at the office of the chief engineer of highways and directed them to complete development schemes within stipulated time and not to compromise on the quality of work.
He said that the monitoring committees appointed by him would review progress and quality of all the development schemes from time to time.
The minister also addressed an open katchehry in Tando Allahyar district where he assured people and party workers that the PPP government would honour its promises made during election campaign and would work to translate the dreams of Benazir Bhutto into reality.
He directed the officials to respect party workers and solve their problems on priority basis and made it clear that the corrupt practices in the construction of roads in the district including Jhando Mari and Mirwah roads would be investigated.
Sindh Minister for Special Education Syed Ali Nawaz Shah Rizvi said at the katchehry that the party co-chairperson had directed all the ministers to hold open katchehries at least seven days a month to get firsthand knowledge about people’s problems.
Local PPP leader and former Sindh minister Abdul Sattar Bachani criticised the district nazim of Tando Allahyar and demanded an inquiry into charges of corruption in development schemes.
Most of people’s complaints pertained to shortage of water, load-shedding, alleged excesses of officers with party workers and open sale of narcotics in the town.
