LAHORE, Aug 11: Fancied chestnut mare Chill battled to success in the feature event during the day/night Lahore Summer Meeting at the floodlit Racecourse before a fairly large crowd of equine connoisseurs on Sunday evening. This was Chill’s second consecutive win, the first registered on July 1.

Installed a 3 to 2 favourite in the betting ring, she was given a perfect ride by the jockey Shakeel Mahmood. Chill took over the lead shortly after the start and was challenged by Zanjeer and Mythical, who failed to match Chill’s speed to be content with second and third position respectively.

The biggest disappointment of the race was the bay mare Noor, who was backed for place but ran off the frame. Her stablemate, Zanjeer finished a good second, beaten by half-a-length from Chill. Earlier at the starting gates, the Lahore race Club (LRC) stewards changed the rider of Zanjeer, jockey Javed Iqbal replacing jockey Shahid Rehman. This was the sixth and last race of the card.

In the supporting and fifth event, the bay mare Don’t Follow never let her five opponents come close winning by two-and-a-half lengths from Pick Of The Day. Bold Act failed to act boldly under jockey A. Rahim to finish third.

Malik Ghulam Qadir owned 30-100 favourite Don’t Follow was flawlessly ridden by jockey Shahid Rehman.

The bay filly Iconic swept to a short-head victory in the third race Ridden by the riding boy Alam Sher, and trained by Sohail Aziz, the filly beat the gelding Dam Dama Dam by a neck in a closely contested race. Odds on favourite filly, Philogyny finished third another one-and-a-quarter length behind. Steward Syed Pervez Hussain Shah was the lucky owner.

Khawaja Asif Hussain’s bay mare, Geo Super, really proved super when she outclassed her dozen rivals, who looked no patch on her, winning the opener by a big margin of a distance.

Geo Super under jockey Salahuddin II was beaten by Laina Again on April 30 and the owned suspecting some foul play did not enter her in races since then. On Sunday, she proved she was tamed when defeated.

The three-year-old bay filly Victory Bulbul, who won the second race, was the best performer of the day.

Available even at the odds of 15-100, the punters backed her very confidently and she reposed their confidence winning by nine lengths from Dream Memories. Astonishingly Victory Bulbul registered her win under weak jockey, A Rahim, a stow-away from the Karachi Race Club (KRC).

Four favourites won in a card of six-events. The favourites were: Geo Super (50-100), Victory Bulbul (15-100), Don’t Follow (30-100) and Chill (3-2).

Iconic and Sweet Lady registered upset victories in the third and fourth race, respectively.
