Karate team named for Tokyo

KARACHI, Aug 11: Pakistan Karate Organisation Kyokushinkaikan on Monday announced the names of two karatekas in the Kyokushinkaikan discipline to represent Pakistan in the 3rd World Kyokushin Open Karate Tournament to take place in Tokyo on Nov 29-30.

“Urooj Khan and Mazhar Ellahi, both black-belt holders, were selected from a number of karatekas from all the four provinces in Sunday evening’s trials at the Lahore Railway Stadium,” said Sensei Ata Hussain Butt, branch chief of the organisation in Lahore.

“They would be accompanied by Zubair Ahmed as manger,” he added.

Urooj, two-time champion full-contact kumite champion and karate instructor, and Mazhar, also the winner of several national events, will undergo strenuous training until the event being held under the auspices of the International Karate Organisation Kyokushinkaikan.
