TORONTO, Aug 15: Controversial Australian umpire Darrell Hair will be officiating during a triangular one-day cricket series featuring West Indies, Bermuda and host Canada.

In an interview with Dawn on Friday Atul Ahuja, the Chief Executive Officer of Cricket Canada, said the International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed Ranjan Madugalle to officiate in the tournament as match referee while Roger Dill of Bermuda will be the other umpire apart from Hair to officiate in the seven-day series commencing on Aug 18 at King City, about 25 kilometres north of Toronto.

After the discontinuation of Sahara Cup between India and Pakistan here in the late 1990s, the coming series will be the first major international cricket event to be staged in Canada.

“Canada was all set to hold a four-nation tournament here this week but it had to be postponed despite Pakistan’s great cooperation,” said Ahuja. However, the Canada Cricket CEO did not explain the reason that led to the postponement of the series.

He disclosed that the postponed tournament will now be held in October this year. Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh and Canada are expected to take part in this quadrangular Twenty20 series.
