Offender hurt in shootout expires

KHANEWAL, Aug 19: A proclaimed offender died at a hospital after he was injured in an ‘encounter’ with the police in 8/8-R village in Tulamba police precincts, the district police chief said here on Tuesday.

Having a Rs300,000 bounty on his head, offender Yaseen was involved in 14 robberies, extortion, murder and police encounters in Makhdoompur, Kabirwala, Tulamba and Layyah, said District Police Officer Muhammad Kamran Khan.

He said Tulamba police chased Yaseen and his two accomplices after they fired at a police team and fled. The police set up a picket at 8/8-R village and waited for the offenders to pass. The offenders reached there and opened fire at the police. The police retaliated and an encounter ensued.

In the 25-minute encounter, Yaseen was injured and arrested, but his accomplices fled. Yaseen, a resident of Makhdoompur, later died a hospital because of his injuries. Police found a 444 bore rifle on him.
