ISLAMABAD, Aug 19: Veteran leader of Pakistan People’s Party, Makhdoom Amin Fahim, said on Tuesday that after Gen Musharraf’s safe exit from the presidency the government had run out of justifications to delay restoration of pre-Nov 3 judiciary.

Talking to a group of newsmen outside the parliament house, Fahim urged the coalition government to ensure early reinstatement of the deposed judges.

He said that as the impeachment process had been averted the ruling coalition should use the time thus saved to restore judges, take steps to provide immediate relief to the poor and maintain law and order in the country.

Referring to Musharraf’s resignation, Fahim said that he (Musharraf) had taken a wise decision by stepping down. It was better for the country that the impeachment had been avoided, he opined.

He said that he had opposed the impeachment move because he believed the country faced more serious challenges than Musharraf’s ouster. The country faced the worst law and order situation in two provinces, skyrocketing prices of essential commodities and above all the simmering judicial crisis that was beyond the coalition to solve, he said.

He demanded that the government reinstate the judges, bring down prices and maintain writ of the government in troubled areas.—Staff Reporter
