Maria cruises into POF WISPA semis

Wah Cantt, Aug 22: Top national player Maria Toor overpowered compatriot Zoya Khalid in the quarter-finals of the 4th POF WISPA Squash Tournament 2008 under way at Jahangir Khan Squash Complex on Friday.

Maria found Zoya an easy opponent to beat in the last-eight stage - taking only 14 minutes to register a formidable 11-0, 11-5, 11-3 triumph.

Top seed Lisa Camilleri of Australia also registered a straight set 11-8, 11-4, 11-4 victory over Egyptian Nouran El Torky and clinched her expected berth in the last-four of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Kanzy Emad El-Defrawy, the 14-year old schoolgirl from Alexandria, Egypt continued her giant killing thrashing 8th seeded local Rushna Mehboob 11-5, 11-3, 11-2 to make it to the semi-finals.

Earlier she ousted 4th seed local Muqaddas Ashraf to enter quarters. She will contest with second seed local star Maria Toor in the pre-final showdown.

Fiona Moverley of England trounced another local Saima Shoukat in straight sets registering a convincing 11-3, 11-7, 11-6 triumph in 16 minutes. 3rd seed Fiona will now face up with favourite Lisa Camiller for a place in the final.
