KESC, Army, PS win in Junior Hockey

LAHORE, Aug 23: KESC bulgeoned Islamabad 10-1 on the 3rd day of Junior U-20 National Hockey Championship being played at the National Hockey Stadium here on Saturday.

In this one-sided affair, KESC’s spearhead Irfan Khan performed a hat-trick with three goals. Ali Mehdi converted two penalty corners out of ten that KESC had earned while Amir, Mohsin, Sajid, Ameer and Fayaz scored one goal each. Islamabad’s solitary goal was scored by Azhar Islam at the fag end of the match. Islamabad got 4 penalty corners but without success. In the afternoon session, Army steamrolled Balochistan White 17-0. Soldiers led 6-0 at half time. Waqas Butt blasted a hat-trick with five goal while Amir Sohail and Kashif Rafique performed hat-tricks with four and three goals respectively.

Qaiser Bashir converted a penalty corner. Army had ten penalty corners and Balochistan none.

In the other match, Pakistan Steel (PS) trounced Northern Areas 24-0. Imran Malik (8), Waqar Butt (6) were the main strikers while Zubair Riaz, M. Imran, Junaid Ali, Imran Junior netted two goals each.

National Bank of Pakistan destroyed Sindh 17-0 in another match. Muhammad Taufique hammered five goals while Attique and Subehan Raza slammed hat-tricks.—Agencies
