KASUR, Sept 1: The Government Islamia College, Kasur, is facing a host of problems, including faculty shortage.

This was stated by principal Rao Akhtar Hussain at a prize distribution ceremony at the college auditorium on Monday.

He said the college at present had 49 teachers to teach more than 2500 students whereas the minimum requirement (for teachers) was 102.

Similarly, the college had 30 non-teaching staff while the required was 57.

He said hundreds of plants and trees on the college lawns had collapsed due to sewage coming from nearby residential area.

He added the district administration had failed to remove encroachments by an influential goldsmith despite repeated requests by the college.

The principal said that despite this deplorable condition of the college, it had given excellent results in FA/FSc and BA/BSc examinations.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Zafurallaha Bhatti, Prof Muhammad Saeed and Prof Rafiq Saghar demanded a multipurpose hall with at least 500 seats, library building, and a block for commerce education.

Presiding over the ceremony, MNA Sheikh Waseem Akhtar said education was the top priority of the PML-N and vowed to prevail upon the Punjab government to improve college’s lot.

MPA Kasur Naeem Safdar said that in the days when private sector was leading the public sector in education, the performance of the Government Islamia College was outstanding.

He added that he and other MPs would take the improvement of the college on a priority and would soon lead a delegation to meet the chief minister.

SECURITY: The police have completed all arrangements to maintain security in Kasur during the month of Ramazan.

DPO Abdul Kareem told a news conference that police had been deputed at mosques with metal detectors.
