ISLAMABAD, Sept 2: Farhan Mehboob has become Pakistan’s leading squash player after improving his world ranking to world No 26 from world No 33, as Aamir Atlas Khan fell on the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Men’s International ranking table from world No 24 to world No 32.

Speaking to Dawn, Farhan pointed out “I played the quarter-finals in the Malaysian Open, Malaysia, and a Super-series tournament in Egypt.”

“During the Super-series tournament in Egypt I created an upset defeating Ong Beng Hee (Malaysia) World No 10 and Cameron Pilley now World No 18.

“My next target is the World Open as playing over there against the top seed players will confirm my spot among the top 15 world players on the PSA ranking table within this year,” he added.

An official of the Pakistan Squash Federation commenting on a query about the current decline of Aamir’s ranking said “We know his (Aamir’s) ranking has gone down on the world circuit and this is because he had played a non-PSA ranking tournament — World Men’s Junior Championship-2008 in Switzerland.”

Aamir, top seed of the championship made a shock exit from an individual event in the final going down against Egypt’s Mohamed El Shorbagy.

PSF official claimed that, “he (Aamir) will improve his ranking after playing the upcoming international PSA ranking tournaments.”

Mansoor Zaman also fell three points on the table and is now ranked at No 34 while Yasir Butt goes to World No 50.
