SUKKUR, Sept 5: The nephew of district nazim of Sukkur and his driver were kidnapped from Rohri-Salehpat Road on Thursday.

Tahir Hussain Shah, nephew of Sukur District Nazim, Nasir Hussain Shah, and his driver Manzoor Mahar had gone to visit agricultural land in Sangrar. While returning, unidentified people kidnapped them from Rohri-Salehpat road.

On receiving information, Nasir Shah, who was in Karachi, rushed to Sukkur. The case of kidnapping could not be registered due to dispute of jurisdiction between Salehpat and Sangrar police stations.

On Friday, hundreds of villagers staged a demonstration and a sit-in at Babarloi bypass near here on Friday to protest against the kidnapping of Tahir Shah and his driver.

Protestors burnt tyres and blocked the road for four hours due to which entire vehicular traffic was stranded at both ends. However, the blockade was ended on the intervention of Nasir Shah.

Talking to journalists, he said that he would not blame anybody for the kidnapping as he was not sure who was behind it.

It may be mentioned here that Tahir Shah had contested February 18 general elections on NA-198 Sukkur from the platform of Pakistan Muslim League-Q and had lost to Nauman Islam Shaikh of Pakistan People’s Party.

OPERATION: In an operation in Bachal Shah Miani late on Thursday night, police arrested 17 members of Mirani and Jatoi communities in an effort to end the three years old Jatoi-Mirani bloody disputes in the area.

A heavy contingent of police and Rangers raided and cordoned entire Bachal Shah area and carried out house- to- house search, during which police arrested 17 suspects belonging to Mirani and Jatoi clans. Later, joint check posts of police and rangers were established in the area to avert any untoward incident.Following the raid and operation, the Mirani clansmen alleged that police took away household items from their houses and also arrested innocent people.

Police officials told newsmen that since last three years the area has become a no go area, due to frequent armed clashes between Jatoi and Mirani clansmen, due to which business and education activities in the area were suffering badly.

Three years ago Mukhtiar Jatoi, killed by armed members of Mirani community, had sparked an unending enmity between both the clans. Bloody clashes during the period have so far claimed more than 12 lives from the either clan and have left more than 50 injured.

DROWNS: A minor girl drowned in Kirthar Canal near here on Friday. Shazia Gopang, 10, daughter of Nazir Gopang, was playing at the embankment of Kirthar canal, when she slipped and fell into the canal and drowned.
