HYDERABAD, Sept 7: PPP workers and supporters continued to celebrate the election Asif Ali Zardari as the president in different parts on Sindh on Sunday. People danced in joy and distributed sweets in an atmosphere of happiness which overtook the entire province from Karachi to Kashmore
However, there was grief over the absence of Ms Benazir Bhutto as some people were seen with tears in their eyes while raising the slogan of “Zinda hay BB zinda hay.”
In Hyderabad, PPP activists celebrated the election of Mr Zardari as the president by displaying fireworks, taking out motorcycle rallies and setting up reception stalls in different areas where party songs were played and PPP workers danced in jubilation. The activists displayed firearms and fired in the air at different places.
Similar reports were received from Larkana, Mirpurkhas, Khairpur and other parts of the province.
In Mithi, six activists received minor injuries in firing in the air on Saturday night. They were admitted to Mithi Civil Hospital.
Meanwhile, congratulatory messages from organisations and individuals are pouring in the offices of newspapers and news agencies. The messages expressed the hope that Mr Zardari will solve the problems confronting the country.
STP: Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party chairman Dr Qadir Magsi in his message said that since Mr Zardari was the head of the biggest political party of the country, the people of the country have focused their eyes on him to solve their problems.
The people are watching whether he will implement the charter of democracy and restore the deposed judges and ensure the supremacy of parliament, strengthen democratic institutions and grant provincial autonomy to the federating units, the STP chairman said.
He said the army operation in Balochistan should be called off and the matter should be resolved on political basis.
He said the people expect that electricity tariff and other utilitity charges will also be reduced. Mr Magsi said that now the PPP could not wiggle out of its promises as it enjoyed supreme power.
Haji Mohammad Yaqoob, Mohammad Akram Arain and other office-bearers of the Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that the victory Mr Zardari was the victory of the oppressed people of Pakistan and the outcome of the sacrifices rendered by Shaheed prime ministers, Z.A.Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto.
They reminded the president-elect that the economy of the country was in doldrums and expressed the hope that Mr Zardari will adopt revolutionary measures to put the economy on the right track.
The Sindh Chamber of Agriculture at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Syed Qamaruzzaman Shah expressed the hope that Mr Zardari will resolve the problems of the farming community.
The Sindh Agriculture University Teachers Association felicitated Mr Zardari and expressed the hope that he will introduce new reforms in the universities and support research and resolve the problems of the teachers.
