KOHAT, Sept 8: The decomposed body of one of the 11 soldiers of the Frontier Constabulary kidnapped from the Kotal checkpost two days ago was found in the mountains of the Bostikhel area of Darra Adamkhel on Monday.

A security man, Hafiz Silawar Khan, had been killed and four others injured in the attack by militants on the Kotal checkpost of the Frontier Constabulary on Friday night. The four personnel who had got bullet injuries to legs and hands had managed to come down from the mountains.

Highly-placed sources told Dawn on Monday that the 11 soldiers had been taken hostage by the militants after attacking the checkpost. One of them, who was injured, was in great pain because of absence of medical care and the militants killed him by shooting him in the head.

The victim, Omar Khan of 117 Platoon of the FC, had signs of torture on his body. The body was taken to the KDA divisional headquarters hospital.

The military authorities after the attack had barred the district administration from extending any help and no official was allowed to inspect the checkpost that falls in the jurisdiction of the Kohat district government, allegedly in an attempt to hush up the issue because local journalists had direct excess to the district administration, which provides information about events happening in Darra Adamkhel. The Rescue 15 staff was also not allowed to carry the injured in ambulance. In the absence of any information centre of the military, local journalists have to rely on eyewitnesses’ account and information provided by militants’ spokesman, and it takes a day or two to dig out and confirm the actual story.

Meanwhile, four security personnel were injured in a fresh clash between security forces and militants the near Government Degree College in Darra Adamkhel early Monday morning.

The security forces arrested a suspect near Spina Thana on the border between Darra Adamkhel and Peshawar late Sunday night. The man, Fazal Kareem, of the Malakand region was taken to some undisclosed place for interrogation.

Militants also looted another bank in the Darra Adamkhel bazaar on Monday. The staff of the local Habib Bank branch could not give the exact figure of the looted amount.
