CHARSADDA, Sept 18: Two improvised explosive devices went off near Umerzai police station, damaging the building and shattering windowpanes of nearby houses in Charsadda in the small hours of Thursday, officials and residents said.
They said that the devices had been planted near the boundary wall of the police station, which exploded at the time of Sehri, damaging the office of Moharar and investigation officer. The building developed cracks but no casualty was reported, they added.
The explosions rocked the entire area and triggered fear among the people, who came out of their houses in panic. Windowpanes of a number of houses in the vicinity of the police station were also shattered. The sound of the explosions was heard in the far off localities.
Soon after the explosions, the bomb disposal squad reached the site and collected evidence, saying that the devices were locally made.
SHO Niaz Mohammad registered a case against unidentified culprits under Section 3/4 of Explosives Act, Section 427, 109 and 120 of Pakistan Penal Code.
ROAD MISHAPS: At least 15 people, including seven women, were injured in two road accidents here on Thursday.
In the first incident, a car collided head on with a Datsun pick-up near Rajjar here on Thursday. Fourteen persons were injured in the accident.
The injured were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital. They were identified as Rehmanullah, Muskan, Iqra, Nida, Huma, Zeenat, Baz Mohammad, Rahat Gul, Mohammad Naeem, Gul Wahid, Jehangir, Ibrar, wife of Tehseenullah and wife of Rehmanullah. Some of the injured were stated to be in a critical condition.
In the other road accident, a bus hit a motorcyclist Mohammad Jameel near Umerzai and wounded him seriously. He was taken to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar.
MAN WOUNDED: A man opened fire on his brother in the Sardheri area, injuring him critically.
Sources said that Dost Mohammad exchanged harsh words with his brother Arshad over a domestic issue and opened fire on him, wounding the latter critically. He was taken to the hospital.
