ISLAMABAD, Sept 23: The sub-committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Sports on Tuesday said a new president of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) would be named after consultation with former Olympians.

The committee said Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali took charge of the PHF in September 2007 and his two-year tenure unfortunately failed to promote hockey in Pakistan.

Pakistan ended up at the eighth spot in the 12-team hockey competition at the Beijing Olympics.

Regarding the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF), the committee said Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mahmood Ahmed was busy with national duties and that it was humanly impossible for him to put in efforts for the improvement of squash in the country.

The committee strongly felt that the PSF should be headed by a person with strong administrative qualities and the services of former greats like Jahangir Khan, Jansher Khan, Gogi Allauddin, Mohibullah Khan and Qamar Zaman be utilised for the betterment of squash.—Sports Reporter
