ISLAMABAD, Sept 24: The city administration has divided heavy vehicles into four categories and they would be subjected to strict security check before their entry into the federal capital.

Sources said the categories under which the vehicles had been divided are transit, fruit and vegetable, construction and traders. Checkposts will also be established at different parts of the city, including Carriage Factory, Peshawar Mor and Faizabad, to check and regulate vehicles.

Entry of heavy vehicles into the red-zone area has been banned. However, those delivering goods to their clients located in the zone can enter after undergoing necessary security check.

Only those vehicles will be allowed to enter the zone which seek permission from the chief commissioner and submit their details and time of entry.

According to the plan, transit vehicles coming from Peshawar and Murree will ply on their old routes. However, they would be scanned randomly.

Vehicles coming from Peshawar will use I.J. Principal Road, Faizabad and Islamabad Highway for their onward journey to Lahore and other parts of the country. Similarly, vehicles coming from Murree will use Murree Road, Faizabad and Islamabad Highway.

Vehicles bringing vegetables and fruits will enter Islamabad from Carriage Factory after being scanned. They will then move towards the fruit and vegetable markets after reaching Sabzi Mandi.

The sources said the city administration was conducting a survey of the capital to determine the number of construction sites in the city. Permits will be issued to those companies involved in construction to move their heavy vehicles in the city.

Their routes will also be decided after consultation with the authorities concerned and after undergoing security check.

The routes of the vehicles bringing goods for traders will also be determined after consultation with the people concerned.

The sources said heavy vehicles would be allowed to enter the city from 10pm to 6am.
