SUKKUR, Sept 26: Fearing for their lives a couple who tied the knot of their own will reached Sukkur from Dera Allah Yar, Balochistan on Friday and filed a petition in the Sindh High Court’s Sukkur circuit bench seeking protection.In the petition they stated that they wanted protection from their relatives who have had declared them karo-kari and were planning to kill them.

Fida Hussain Mirali, son of Ghous Bux Mirali, and Haseena Mirali, daughter of Sikandar Ali Mirali, residents of Dera Allah Yar, eloped from their houses on Tuesday and got married in Shikarpur civil court on Wednesday.

On Friday, they reached Sukkur and filed a petition in the court through Advocate Hadi Bux Bhat.

The couple stated in their petition that their marriage had sparked enmity between their families who had declared them karo-kari and wanted to put them to death.

The petitioners, fearing for their lives, demanded protection.

Justice Yasmeen Abbasi adjourned the hearing till Oct 6.

After the hearing of the petition, the couple was sent to some undisclosed location for security reasons.

According to well-placed sources in Dera Allah Yar, following the marriage of Fida Hussain Mirali and Haseena Mirali, relatives of the girl including, her father Sikandar Ali Mirali, Ali Mohammad Mirali, brother-in-law Akbar Mirali and Wazir Ali Mirali went to the residence of Fida Hussain Mirali and kidnapped his father, Ghous Bux Mirali, and mother Jam Zadi.

Sources said that Ghous Bux Mirali had been killed by the relatives of the girl, while Fida Hussain’s mother Jam Zadi managed to escape but her whereabouts could not be ascertained.

According to the DPO Jafferabad Nazir Ahmed Kurd, following the murder of Ghous Bux Mirali, two suspects Sikandar Ali Mirali and his brother, Ali Mohammad Mirali, have been arrested and two TT pistols have been recovered from them possession.
