‘MQM to counter Taliban’

Published September 28, 2008

KARACHI, Sept 27: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has made it clear that his party will retaliate with “full force in accordance with the Shariah” if Taliban or jihadi elements launch any attack on the people of Karachi.

“If you (jihadis) attack the people of Karachi with Kalashnikov and automatic weapons, we will also attack in accordance with Shariah and with full force,” Mr Hussain said in a telephonic address from London on Saturday to a function organised by the Khidmat-i-Khalq Foundation.

He said that “Jihadi seminaries have encircled Karachi” from all sides and are trying to impose their own brand of Shariah on the strength of sticks and Kalashnikovs.

The MQM leader said any attempt to launch an attack would be paid back in the same coin not only by men but also by women.

“The MQM shall never accept any forced Shariah and the party has finally decided not to allow Talibanisation in the city at any cost.”

Mr Hussain called upon the rich not to ignore the Talibanisation threat and make arrangements for their security.
