HYDERABAD, Sept 29: District Coordination Officer Ali Ahmed Loond has directed the revenue officials with powers of special judicial magistrates to take action against transporters who were overcharging passengers on the eve of Eidul Fitr.

The DCO said in a notification that it had been observed that transporters were charging more than the rate of fare fixed by the district government. The fixed fare was effective from Aug 8, 2008, he said.

He said that the fare lists had been published in newspapers and also circulated among all the stakeholders. He directed the revenue officers to ensure implementation of approved fare within their respective jurisdiction.

The DCO also asked the transporters to replace or repair old smoke-emitting vehicles, make them environment friendly and avoid overloading of passengers.

BoR: The senior member of Board of Revenue Sindh on Monday announced that the last date for filing agricultural income tax returns under the Sindh Land Tax and Agricultural Income Tax Ordinance 2000 had been fixed as Sept 30. He advised land owners and growers whose net agricultural income exceeded Rs80,000 for the agriculture year 2007-08 to file returns on form-A with deputy district officer (revenue) by Sept 30.

SPSC: The controller of examinations of the Sindh Public Service Commission Hyderabad announced on Monday that the competitive examination for selection of stipendiary candidates for BSc and MSc Forestry Course 2008-2010 would be held on Oct 20-30.

He said that the examination centres had been set up at the Government Boys Degree College Qasimabad, Government High School No.1 opposite Goal Building Hyderabad, Government NJV Higher Secondary School Karachi and Government Al-Falah High School Minara Road Sukkur.

He said that admit letters for appearing in exams were being issued individually to the candidates’ addresses by post and advised the candidates who did not receive admit letters by Oct 15, to contact the Sindh Public Service Commission’s head offices in Hyderabad.

SLA: The Sindhi Language Authority has organised a three-month Sindhi language course for Urdu-speaking students, government servants and general public who were interested in learning Sindhi.

According to a press release issued on Monday, the SLA advised the interested candidates to obtain admission forms from the office of SLA secretary.
