KOHAT, Oct 8: A woman was killed and three security personnel and a girl were injured in exchange of fire between militants and security forces in Shin Dandh area of Frontier Region Kohat on Tuesday evening.

According to sources militants attacked security forces. The security forces retaliated which reportedly caused death of the mother of teacher Hanif. The injured were identified as sepoy Noor Shah Gul, Nisar, Gul Rasool and a girl child.

Meanwhile, security forces arrested seven militants during a search operation in the same area on Wednesday. The operation was continued till filing of this report.

At least 1200 militants had been trapped between Darra Adamkhel, Orakzai region and Khyber region due to simultaneous action by the security forces and the tribal Lashkars against them.

ACCIDENT: A driver was killed and another got serious injuries when a truck fell from the hilly track on old Indus Highway in Kohat on Wednesday.

The truck developed a fault and was parked on the ravine side of the hilly track. After it had been repaired and other drivers were going back to their own vehicles when it fell into the ravine. As a result its driver Sattar Shah, resident of Matani was killed while another driver Ijaz Hussian of Momand tribal region sustained injuries.

The local administration closed the hilly track at 5pm to start operation for pulling out the trailer and the dead body of the driver from the ravine.

It merits a mention here that most of the drivers are using the dangerous hilly track as heavy vehicles are not allowed to enter Kohat tunnel in the wake of ongoing operation in Darra Adamkhel. Early this year the administration had to open the tunnel for heavy traffic after the loss of several precious lives due to falling of vehicles into the ravine.

OUTDATED TRANSFORMERS: Members of National Assembly from Kohat in a detailed report have asked the chief executive of Pesco to immediately remove 20 years old outdated transformers, poles and wires and upgrade all of them for the uninterrupted supply of electricity.

They demanded electrification of areas from where high tension lines were passing like 485 villages of Gumbat, Lachi and oil and gas rich Shakardarra subdivision.

In a joint statement issued here on Wednesday, MNA Pir Dilawar Shah and Khurshid Begum said that they had sent a written technical report about the bifurcation of feeders, early construction of KDA grid station, separate feeders for Darra Adamkhel and Hangu and appointment of local jobless people on posts from grade 1 to grade 7.

Presently the load of 66 KV feeders in Hangu and 66 KV of Kalaya, headquarters of Orakzai region was on the 132 KVA grid station on Rawalpindi road, Kohat, which caused low voltage and power disruptions. Therefore a separate 132 KVA transmission line was needed for Hangu. A separate 37 MVA power transformer should be installed there, they added.

They said that Pesco was planning to connect three feeders of Darra Adamkhel with the new KDA grid station after its commissioning therefore 20 MVA and 26 MVA separate transformers should be installed for the tribal area to avoid loading on the new Kohat grid station.

The concerned SDO should be directed to remove the high tension lines passing over the houses of the residents of College Town and Gumbat which posed a potential threat to the lives of the people.

Similarly all new and old poles should be properly earthed under the safety rules for high and light tension lines rules to avoid deaths of linemen in future and save the electronic households from damage.

They asked the Pesco chief to establish a transformer repair workshop in Kohat which could cater to the needs of the large tribal areas and several districts which were presently sending out of order gadgets to Nowshera.
