KARACHI, Oct 16: National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) beat Karachi Port Trust (KPT) 3-1, Afghan FC edged past PIA 2-1 while Pakistan Steel edged past Habib Bank Limited (HBL) 1-0 in the three Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) matches played at separate venues in Karachi on Thursday.
The first match between NBP and league-leaders KPT at the Peoples Sports Complex saw KPT taking the lead first through Abdul Rehman in the 12th minute.
But NBP got even through their spearhead Mohammad Asif in the 27th minute to make the score 1-1 at interval.
The second session was dominated by NBP’s midfielder Farooq Shah who scored twice, in the 50th and 58th minutes, to win the match for his side.
The second match at the Korangi Baloch Stadium saw Afghan FC finally settling down after a couple of continuous defeats thanks to their international striker Hayatullah.
The first session remained barren mostly until Hayatullah scored for Afghan FC in extra time to make the score 1-0 at interval.
The second half saw him in action again as he doubled the lead in the 57th minute. PIA’s consolation goal was scored by their striker Nazeer Ahmed in the 86th minute.
The last match of the day played between Pakistan Steel and HBL at the Pakistan Steel Township ground saw the lone goal and match decider happening for the home side in the 45th minute through their winger Abdul Wahab.
Friday’s fixtures: Army v Khan Research Laboratories at the Army Stadium in Rawalpindi at 4.00pm; Navy v Pakistan Television at the Naval Complex in Islamabad at 4.00pm.
