UNITED NATIONS, Oct 17: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon plans to visit Pakistan, but no date has been set for the trip, his spokesperson Michelle Montas said on Friday.

At the regular press briefing, Ms Molntas rejected suggestions that the UN chief had snubbed Pakistan by not including it in his South Asian trip’s itinerary.

“The secretary-general wants to visit all the countries of South Asia, including Pakistan, and planning in this regard is taking place. He will definitely visit Pakistan,” the spokesperson said in response to a question.

Mr Ban is leaving at the end of this month for a four-nation trip that will take him to the Philippines, India, Nepal and Bangladesh.

He is scheduled to attend the Second Global Forum on Migration and Development in Manila on Oct 29. From Manila, he will travel to India, Nepal and Bangladesh.

It may be pointed out that the secretary general has not been able to appoint an inquiry commission to look into the assassination of PPP leader Benazir Bhutto last year.

On Pakistan’s request, Mr Ban agreed to appoint such a commission which he called a “fact-finding” body, instead of an investigation commission.

However, despite being pressed by Pakistan, the UN has not been able to appoint such a commission.
