LONDON, Oct 20: England’s left-arm spinner Monty Panesar will spend a month on the subcontinent training with the world’s best spinners including Pakistan’s spin king Mushtaq Ahmed ahead of his team’s tour to India.

According to Peter Moores, England’s head coach, Panesar will train with leg-spinner Mushtaq and several other spinners in India and Sri Lanka before the two-Test tour.

“It’s a great opportunity for him [Monty]. He’s been before and knows conditions are tough. He wants to get himself ready for India. Monty has not played for a while as he is not in the one-day squad. He has this opportunity to get better and move forward,” Moores stated.

Mushtaq, went on to play 144 ODIs besides featuring in 52 Test matches. He last played for his country in the 2003 Faisalabad Test against South Africa.

Pakistan’s main spin weapon in the 1992 World Cup-winning squad, Mushtaq, 38, was approached recently by Moores to work with England’s slow bowlers while former Pakistan fast bowler Waqar Younis will tour India with the academy team.

“Mushy is passionate to coach and pass on information he’s gained over last 20 years. He’s very good and speaks players’ language,” Moores said.—Agencies
