RAWALPINDI, Oct 25: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said justice will be ensured at every level for positive change and for this purpose recruitment on merit is being ensured in government departments, especially police.

He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting of MNAs and MPAs of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) belonging to Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Jhelum and Attock districts at Punjab House Islamabad on Friday night.

Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, PML-N Punjab General Secretary Raja Mohammad Ashfaq Sarwar, MNAs Chaudhry Ayaz Amir, Dr Tariq Fazal, Aqeel Anjum, Malik Abrar, Haji Pervaiz Khan, Sheikh Aftab, Begum Tahira Aurangzeb and Begum Najma Hameed, MPAs Malik Iftikhar, Chaudhry Ayaz, Malik Yasir Raza, Ziaullah Shah, Chaudhry Shahryar Riaz, Col (retired) Shuja Khanzada, Raja Fayyaz Sarwar and Tanveer Aslam as well as PML-N assembly members from Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Jhelum and Attock districts participated in the meeting.

He directed the police to utilise all available resources for curbing crimes especially incidents of heinous crimes.

He said without provision of justice to the poor in police stations and kutcheris, fruits of development would not be witnessed.

He said MNAs and MPAs should not keep an eye only on administration, police and government institutions for resolving problems of poor people and ensuring justice to the oppressed but also avoid recommendations for any wrong doing.

The chief minister said maintenance of law and order was top priority of the government and without removing lawlessness all the fruits of development would be meaningless. He said the police should pay attention to curbing crimes and eliminating incidents of kidnapping for ransom, car-lifting and other heinous crimes.

He said the aim of recruitment in police department on merit was that corruption should be eliminated at lower level in police stations and justice could be ensured to the oppressed people.

He said the government was committed to eliminating corruption from police stations and besides making recruitments of ASIs, sub-inspectors and inspectors through Public Service Commission, appointment of constables had been made on merit so that talented people could be appointed at police stations for the eradication of corruption.
