69 vehicles impounded, 864 fined

ISLAMABAD, Oct 26: The Islamabad Traffic Police said it issued 864 tickets and impounded 69 vehicles involved in wheeling and racing during the current month.

A spokesman for the police said on Sunday that according to a monthly report submitted to the office of Senior Superintendent of Traffic Police Mohammad Zubair Hashmi, the ‘ant-one wheeling squad’ issued fine tickets to 864 motorcyclists worth Rs221,400.

Besides, the squad also impounded 62 motorcycles under section 115 of the Motor Vehicle Ordinance. The police also arrested 18 motorcyclists under section 99-A and their details were sent to the courts of law which imposed Rs28,000 fine on them. Seven cars involved in racing were also impounded during the period.

The squad has been assigned the task to check wheeling and car racing, especially on Murree Road, Faizabad, Rawal Dam chowk, Seventh Avenue, Ninth Avenue, Kashmir Highway and Margalla Road. The SSP directed the squad to take strict action against motorcyclists and motorists involved in wheeling and car racing.

He also advised parents to stop their children from wheeling and car racing.
