Probe team to question PHF officials

Published October 27, 2008

LAHORE, Oct 26: The three-member probe committee looking into Pakistan hockey team’s distressing performance in the Beijing Olympics will be meeting with three concerned officials of the team here at the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) offices on Monday.

The committee, which had been formed by the Federal Sports Ministry, includes former Olympians Abdul Waheed Khan, Shahbaz Senior and MNA Rana Farooq. They are to question PHF Secretary Asif Bajwa, the only official, who retained office after the debacle, and the then head coach-cum-manager Khawaja Zakauddin and coach Naveed Alam.

Bajwa had only joined the PHF a couple of months before the Games, and as the then PHF President Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, head coach Zaka, coach Naveed and the entire selection committee headed by Islahuddin Siddiqui have already resigned, the probe committee’s looking into the matter now seems like a complete waste of the time.
